フリーライターの経済状況が悪化する原因のひとつは、インターネットによって増えたアマチュアの書き手ではないかというのだ。

　たとえば大学教員や会社員がブログを書いて、編集者の目にとまり、雑誌の寄稿や出版化を打診される。本業ではないので、印税についてうるさいこと言わないことをいいことに、ライターの価格破壊が始まっているという。Webの原稿料は安くてあたりまえだとか、メルマガの原稿料はタダといった情報が、ネットの影響で蔓延しているそうな。

　しかもそれは、「1枚5000円だった原稿料が、来月から3000円になる」といった、分かりやすい価格破壊ではないという。Aさんが1枚5000エンで受けていた仕事を、Bさんが3000円で受けるという形で事態は進む。Aさんにとってはいままでの仕事が終わっただけで、「価格破壊」という実感はないというのだ。
